Animal Care Center Monterey Road San Jose

IMPORTANT PROGRAM UPDATES:

Monterey County and City of Salinas Animal Services are working together and under one shelter on 160 Hitchcock Road as of April 1, 2020 as we continue to consolidate our programs.  All animals that would normally come in to each respective shelter are now being housed at the Monterey County Animal Shelter and are listed on this site together.  As services continue to merge, this website will be updated.

Please note: Due to an increase in call volume and current staffing, there may be a delay in getting a call back from us.
Thank you for your patience.

Our adoption program is in person only, first come, first serve. We are not currently placing adoption holds on any animals. Please visit us during the adoption hours above if you are interested in adopting a shelter animal.  If you are adopting a dog and have one at home already, we will ask you to bring it for a "meet and greet".

Licensing program Update:
As of July 1, 2021, Pet licensing programs for both the City of Salinas and Monterey County are being processed at Monterey County. City license tags and fees are still applicable to Salinas residents.  Online, mail and in person services are still available. For questions, please contact us at 831-769-8850.

Animal Intake:
Animal Services continues to accept stray dogs and sick, injured and abandoned dogs, cats, rabbits and other domestic animals from unincorporated Monterey County, City of Salinas, City of Marina, City of Greenfield and City of Carmel. If you find a healthy cat, that does not appear to be in danger, please leave it be. Cats are not prohibited from wandering outside of their property and we know they frequently do just that.(If there is a situation outside of this that may mean the cat needs assistance, please call us). Animal Services wants to ensure that our limited resources for cats are for those that truly need us. For more information on additional cat resources, including spay/neuter resources, please see our "Cat Resources" page.  You can also call us at 831-769-8850, Tuesday-Saturday.

July 1, 2020:Dog licensing and Animal Control functions are still separate. Please see contact information below. Our adoption program has resumed with some changes so please see our adoption page.  Our foster program is only for medical, under aged or specific animals at this time. Adoption, foster and owner redemption will be processed at the County shelter.  Our volunteer program is still on pause as we work out social distancing for all internal and external procedures. We are making every effort to return calls as soon as we can but due to call volume, there may be a delay of several days. Please do not show up at the shelter without contacting us first as we are not open to foot traffic at this time. We appreciate your patience as we continue to make adjustments.
